The last few years have been an extraordinary journey one that brought carbon expertise back from the Far East to the place where it all began: Italy.

Since 2018, we’ve reignited carbon production in our Presezzo factory, where we now produce a complete range of high-end frames and bikes: Racemax² Italia, Racemax Boost Italia, Extrema Italia, and Strada Italia.

Where we started

Most carbon frames on the market today are made in Asia using a standardized pre-preg sheet process.

We asked ourselves: If we could rethink it from scratch, what would carbon frame production look like, made in Italy? How can we reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality?

How we did it

After analysing every technology available,
we made two key decisions:

1. To use dry carbon filaments instead of traditional pre-preg sheets

2. To adopt RTM (Resin-Transfer-Moulding)

What we achieved

Three numbers tell the story:

• 50% less manual labour per raw frame, ensuring efficiency and consistency.

• 78% lower material cost, with freedom to choose fibre type and quality.

• 60% higher energy efficiency, with no need for cold storage of pre-preg
sheets.

Our Key Technologies

Our research led us to develop two key in-house processes that together form the core of 3T’s Made in Italy production.

Filament Winding

When we decided to manufacture carbon frames in Italy, no filament winding machines for bicycle use were available.

So we designed and built our own machines capable of creating complex shapes, not just straight tubes.

This means a continuous fibre throughout the entire frame, with 90% of the fibre placed automatically and only 10% manually.

Resin Transfer Moulding

In the RTM process, resin is injected only after the dry filaments have been placed and shaped.

The liquid resin pushes out any trapped air, resulting in perfectly smooth,homogeneous carbon surfaces that require no further finishing or paint.

Jazz Carbon

Technically, our process is referred to as “Filament Winding Bladder-Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding”. Not exactly catchy, so we renamed it “Jazz Carbon”. Like jazz music, it’s about improvisation, precision, and mastery: the same skills we apply to every frame we make.

Project X

The carbon we craft in Italy looks so good that we offer a naked version, called Project X.
A thin layer of transparent coating protects the surface while revealing the unique carbon weave. Available across the entire Italia range.

Torno Crank

Torno — “to return” — was our first Made in Italy carbon project, launched in 2018.
Everything restarted from this crankset, inspired by the era when the finest frames and components were built in Italy with obsessive attention to detail.
Today, Torno remains a benchmark for lightness, aerodynamics, and stiffness.
