GET CREATIVE - Orca Pod

We offer most of our 3T frames in a Ready-To-Paint option, a blank canvas for you and your local custom painter to create a unique piece of 3T art. The Get Creative series will highlight some of the boldest and most beautiful designs. This month we feature Jason Hirsch’s special paint job done by Hottubes:

Composing an illustrated design like this requires hours and sometimes weeks to piece together. Every graphic needs to be created from scratch, not only so that we have it when it’s time for paint but so that it can be made into a visual rendering and signed off on.

The design process on this one took a few weeks and then about two weeks to paint.

With over 25 different colors and hues, the 5 orcas, fish, under water plants, layers of sea floor and even the character “Stich’ from Disney’s “Lilo and Stich”, there is so much detail and so much to look at; Every turn of the bike has a new surprise to find as well as meaningful quotes of inspiration and streangth.

We could not be more proud and honored to have been part of this project. Thank you for putting your trust in us Jordan, and for being such a great and patient customer with such an unfortunately touching story that you were willing to share with us and the world.

This is the touching story behind the paint job by Jordan Hirsch:

I have 3 unbelievable daughters: Erika, Jenna and Molly (ages 27, 25, and 17) and an awesome son in-law Gregory. I had always wanted to have a custom frame that captured the love, bond, and spirit of our family. Ann’s illness and premature death had prompted the urgency of the “project” for me. We have always referred to ourselves as the “pod” in the likeness of a family of orca whales and their lifelong connection and devotion to each other. I have always loved the phrase “ohana” and the passage from the Disney movie “Lilo and Stitch”. Then, “love always wins” became a family trademark when Ann was first diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor/glioblastoma and as her condition worsened we also added “believe in the power of the pod”. Unfortunately, even with her incredible strength and willingness to undergo countless chemotherapy infusions/experimental treatments/mri scans/ and traveling for second, third, and fourth opinions, she had a seizure on Thanksgiving day 2017 and a scan that showed that her tumor had recurred. She continued to fight but was placed on home hospice in may of 2018 and for approximately 4 months my daughters and myself cared for her 24/7 until she passed away in august of 2018. Through the “V Foundation” we have raised well over 100,000 dollars and in 2019 we will be funding a pediatric brain cancer study in Ann’s name.

I became more of an avid cyclist when I got a Pinarello bike for Fathers’ day and then a Santa Cruz Stigmata for my 56th birthday. These were both gifts from my wife. I had been researching for the new custom bike and somehow the 3T Exploro was on the top of my short list from day 1. Then i saw an article about the 3T “Get Creative” projects which led to Hot Tubes and now the awesome frame for my new bike. I hope to have the build started after new years and plan to hang the frame on my wall because it is definitely a work of art, and absolutely reflects the love and spirit and hope that we have as a family, moving forward together like a pod of orca, with Ann watching over us.

Sincerely, Jordan Hirsch
