The Golfe du Morbihan is a gulf located in Brittany, in the western part of France. “Morbihan” means Little Sea in the local language. It’s an area where the sea enters the land and it is composed of numerous small islands, which some of them can be visited. I cross Vannes, the first city on my road before joining the East side of the gulf. Roads are smooth here, my 3T Strada spins easy, it’s so sweet!
I am going to Tascon island first, an island that we can only be reached at low tide because the access road it is flooded by high tide. This submersible road has a lot of charm with the sea from both sides. I will show you other places like this one today. It is one of the special characteristics of the gulf.
Then, I follow the inland side of the gulf. The points of view are numerous and the landscape changes according to the island and looks like they are playing hide and seek with each other
I am coming in Port Navallo where I have to take a boat to cross the sea and join the other side of the gulf. Bikes are allowed on board, of course. The crossing lasts around 20 minutes, and allows you to find yourself in the heart of the Golfe du Morbihan. Here, we have a privileged place to see the islands. The panoramic view is breathtaking.
Quietly, we are arriving at the port of Locmariaquer where I resume my track. I am going to Auray and, more precisely, to the Saint-Goustneighborhoodood. Today, it is water jousting here. The aim: throw the opponent in the water. Funny!
I let behind me the teams fighting and I ride toward the inner part of the gulf.
What I love here is the sea sinking into the land. It gives a lovely color pallet, that’s why it’s the same pleasure to come here.
I bring you now towards a little place named “Les Sept Îles”. Even if there is just one island (and not seven as the name claims), the place is connected to the mainland by a sandbar. By high tide, the island become inaccessible. This afternoon, the sea is starting to create a breach in the sand. Tourists should leave soon.
Back on my bike, I am going for a last detour at Larmor-Baden. Here there is also a ford that allows you accessing Berder Island, in front of the port. But this time, I am arriving too late, so the road is already flooded.
You have now discovered my favourite place to ride. I love this region for the beauty of its landscapes, its single fords, its islands and the sea who is playing with the land. A lovely place to ride … !
