Today was a great day for the riders of Aqua Blue Sport: Danish Lasse Norman Hansen won the 1st UCI podium place for 2018 by winning the KOM classification at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Australia. This is the second win this week for the Aqua Blue Sport Team after Peter Koning won the Sprint Classification earlier this week.
Shortly after the start, a breakaway by Alexander Porter (KordaMentha Real Estate), Samuel Welsford (KordaMentha Real Estate), Lasse Norman Hansen (Aqua Blue Sport) and Pavel Kochetkov (Team Katusha Alpecin), gained a six minute advantage with speeds over 50km/h while they were riding through Barwon Heads, the home town of Cadel Evans.
But it was Lasse who managed to get first at the top of the short steep climb of 1 km which reaches a max gradient of 22%, and sealed the KOM classification. Lasse’s gearing choice today for the 1x Strada was a 44 front chain-ring with the SRAM 11×36 cassette for this 164km road race. He was riding with 28mm tubulars with 6.5 bar in the front and 7bar in the rear. Aerotundo bars completed his aero set up.
After these first days of racing with the 1x Strada at the highest level, we are happy with the feedback from the riders: they specifically appreciate the bike’s superb aerodynamics, it’s behavior and handling going downhill, and the efficiency in all kinds of terrain while being very comfortable due to the wider types. A great start of the race season. More exciting news to come!
